Ingredients
- 1/3 cup whole milk
- 2 tablespoons heavy cream
- 1/8 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- pinch of ground cinnamon
- pinch of ground cloves
- 1 egg yolk (room temperature)
- 1 tablespoon sugar
- 1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract
- whipped cream (optional)
- extra ground cinnamon or nutmeg (optional)
Instructions
- In a saucepan over medium/medium-low heat, combine milk, cream, nutmeg, cinnamon, and cloves. Whisk frequently and heat until almost boiling.
- In a large bowl, whisk together egg yolk and sugar until well combined.
- Gradually add the hot milk mixture to the egg mixture, whisking thoroughly with each addition.
- Return the combined mixture to the saucepan and cook while whisking constantly until it reaches 160 degrees F.
- Remove from heat, whisk in vanilla, and serve with optional whipped cream and a sprinkle of cinnamon or nutmeg.
