Ingredients

  • 2 fresh pasteurized eggs
  • 3 tablespoons granulated sugar, divided
  • 3/4 cup heavy whipping cream
  • 1/2 cup whole milk
  • 2 tablespoons bourbon
  • 2 tablespoons Frangelico hazelnut liqueur
  • Freshly grated nutmeg for garnishing

Instructions

  1. Separate the egg yolks and whites into separate bowls.
  2. Whisk the egg yolks with 3 tablespoons of sugar until pale.
  3. Warm the cream and milk in a saucepan over medium heat.
  4. Slowly whisk half of the cream mixture into the egg mixture, then combine it all in the saucepan.
  5. Cook the mixture over medium heat, stirring frequently, until it coats the back of a spoon.
  6. Strain the mixture into a bowl and let it cool.
  7. Whisk in the bourbon and Frangelico, then refrigerate until chilled.
  8. In a separate bowl, beat the egg whites with the remaining sugar until soft peaks form.
  9. Gently fold the egg white mixture into the chilled yolk-bourbon mixture.
  10. Refrigerate until chilled.
  11. Just before serving, stir the eggnog and sprinkle with freshly grated nutmeg.
