Ingredients

  • 3 1/2 tablespoons soft light brown sugar
  • a few dashes of Angostura bitters
  • 2 1/4 tablespoons bourbon or rye whisky
  • orange twist for garnish

Instructions

  1. Combine the sugar and 3 1/2 tablespoons of water in a pan, heat gently until the sugar dissolves, and then cool. This will make more than you need but will keep in the fridge for a couple of weeks.
  2. In an old fashioned glass, mix 3 teaspoons of sugar syrup and the bitters until combined.
  3. Fill the glass with ice cubes.
  4. Pour over the bourbon and stir well.
  5. Garnish with a twist of orange peel and serve.
