Ingredients

  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter (room temperature)
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 1 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 teaspoons cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cloves
  • 1/8 teaspoon fine sea salt
  • 2 oz dark rum
  • 3/4 cup hot water (200deg - 205degF recommended)
  • Cinnamon sticks or star anise for garnish

Instructions

  1. To make the Hot Buttered Rum Batter, combine room temperature butter, brown sugar, vanilla extract, cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves, and salt in a mixing bowl.
  2. Use an electric hand mixer to beat the ingredients together until combined, scraping the sides of the bowl as needed.
  3. Use the batter immediately or store in an airtight container in the fridge until ready to assemble the cocktails.
  4. For one serving, add 2 tablespoons of the spice batter to a mug.
  5. Add 2 oz of dark rum and top with 3/4 cup hot water.
  6. Stir until combined and garnish with a cinnamon stick as desired.
  7. Serve immediately and repeat for additional servings.
