Ingredients

  • 5 mandarin oranges
  • 1 - 1 1/2 tablespoons sugar
  • 1/2 ounce fresh lime juice (about 1/2 lime)
  • 3 ounces gin
  • 10 - 12 ice cubes
  • 6 ounces tonic water

Instructions

  1. Cut the mandarin oranges in half and slice one half into 1/8-inch slices.
  2. Place the orange slices on a foil-lined baking sheet and torch them with sugar until they are caramelized and slightly burnt.
  3. Allow the torched oranges to cool, then squeeze the juice from them, discarding any seeds and sugar pieces.
  4. Combine the torched mandarin orange juice with lime juice and gin.
  5. Fill 2 glasses with ice cubes and divide the gin mixture between them.
  6. Pour tonic water into each glass and garnish with the torched mandarin orange slices.
  7. Serve and enjoy.
