Ingredients

  • 1 sugar cube (or 1 bar spoon of simple syrup)
  • 2 dashes of Angostura bitters
  • 2 ounces of rye or bourbon
  • 1 large ice cube or 3-4 smaller ice cubes
  • 1 orange twist

Instructions

  1. Place a sugar cube (or simple syrup) and bitters in a chilled rocks glass.
  2. Muddle the sugar cube with a bar spoon of water if using a sugar cube, or combine the bitters with the simple syrup.
  3. Add the rye or bourbon to the glass and stir well.
  4. Add one large ice cube, or three to four smaller ice cubes.
  5. Stir the drink until it is chilled and properly diluted, for about 30 seconds.
  6. Garnish the drink by slipping an orange twist on the side of the ice cube.
